Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $360,000)

The Town of Knightdale Police Department seeks formal funding in the amount of $360,000 to replace and upgrade a portion of its patrol vehicle fleet.  The funds requested would allow the agency to deploy several complete vehicle projects.  For clarification, a vehicle project includes the purchase price of the police cruiser, its emergency equipment, decals/striping, a paired in-car & body-worn camera system, in-car police radio, RADAR unit, and equipment storage.  Additionally, the project amount covers the service costs associated with professional installation of said equipment.  These vehicles would be assigned to the agency's Patrol Division for use as “police cruisers,” which is an allowed expense.  The term Police Cruiser is further defined by Byrne JAG as a vehicle that “is used in the ordinary course for routine police patrol within the United States.”  Once completed, the Knightdale Police Department will be able to deploy several, fully functional police cruisers.  These vehicles will be utilized for a variety of public purposes including emergency call response, enforcement efforts, traffic control and direction, community outreach/engagement, and visible patrols.  This project will directly benefit the citizens within Knightdale Police Department's territorial service jurisdiction.  It is worth noting that this project is among the designated projects listed in the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2024 (Public Law 118–42).  This proposal is also an exact replication of the project description in the pre-submittal.
