Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $200,000)

Public safety is a major priority for the City of Perris, particularly in our efforts to uphold the municipal code and prevent disasters in our disadvantaged community. The Code Enforcement Division performs field inspections to ensure compliance with building, zoning, safety, and nuisance codes and ordinances. Our goal is to make Perris a safe, healthy, and fulfilling place to live by providing outstanding public service.

To enhance accountability and officer safety, we propose the implementation of body cameras for our Code Enforcement officers. These cameras will provide a recording of interactions with the public, documenting potential threats or acts of violence and offering critical information for incident investigations. Additionally, body cameras will provide an objective record to resolve disputes and prevent misunderstandings.

Performance standards for this project will include a reduction in the number of disputes and complaints against officers, improved incident resolution times, and enhanced overall safety for both officers and the community.
