The City of New Orleans proposes to implement the Crime Lab Equipment Program. The purpose is to outfit the New Orleans Police Department Crime Lab with hardware and software for evidence processing. Project activities include the purchase of 16 high processing CPUs, 32 monitors, 2 printers and licensing for expert forensic software able to resolve mixed DNA profiles, integrate solutions for centralized testing requests, compliance management software, digital case processing, and DNA analysis. Expected outcomes include the New Orleans Police Department being able to process evidence in a timely and cost-effective manner, eliminating the need to send evidence to the Louisiana State Police crime lab and alleviating the massive evidence processing backlog. Subrecipient activity is expected to support training for the DNA Unit of the New Orleans Police Department. The City of New Orleans, including the New Orleans Police Department, and the residents of New Orleans are the intended beneficiaries of this project.
