The City of New Orleans proposes to implement the Violence Intervention Program. The purpose is to develop a comprehensive community violence interruption program that uses evidence-based practices to address key drivers of violence risk – disconnection to supportive work and entrenched mental health needs. Project activities include providing supportive employment opportunities, community outreach and case management services, and cognitive behavioral therapy support for residents acutely impacted by interpersonal violence. The project funding will include staff to support participants, including, but not limited to, cognitive behavioral therapy specialists, case managers, community outreach workers, and project management staff. The funding will also support participant wages and more fungible uses to support participant participation such as transportation. Expected outcomes include a reduction in crime and costs to overburdened criminal legal and healthcare systems. Subrecipient activities will include the previously mentioned employment, outreach, case management, therapy services. The number of subrecipients is to be determined. The residents of New Orleans are the intended beneficiaries of the project.
