Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $543,000)

The City of Grover Beach proposes to expand the technology used by the Police Department to enhance the safety and security of the community. The purpose of this grant will help cover the costs associated with buying more Community Video Cameras, License Plate Readers (LPR), Patrol Vehicle In-Car Cameras and multi-band police radios. Grover Beach currently operates a community camera and LPR program that has been instrumental in solving multiple homicides, robberies, hit and run collisions and capturing suspects fleeing crimes that occurred in nearby cities of Pismo Beach, Arroyo Grande and Oceano. The Police Department also desires to expand its patrol vehicles in-car camera system to add Axon LPR cameras to patrol vehicles that do not have this in-car capability currently. The final component of this proposal is to buy multi-band radios for command staff and supervisors that will allow radio communications with multiple agencies on the same portable radio thereby enhancing regional communications. The expected outcome of the expansion of these programs will lead to the apprehension of criminals, including violent criminals, stolen vehicles, the identifying of suspects involved in crimes, and the locating of missing persons.
