Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $250,000)

Salt Lake County (SLCo) proposes to implement Project Right Person In, Right Person Out (Project RIO). The purpose is to provide subaward funds to Salt Lake Legal Defender Association (LDA), a SLCo contracted service provider, to serve up to 100 high needs individuals navigating the criminal justice system. SLCo project activities include project administration and oversight. Subrecipient project activities for the 12-month project include 1) hiring two case managers; 2) providing services to high need individuals in the criminal justice and behavioral health systems to address medication management, engage in treatment and referral services, coordinate with medical and community providers, and/or other applicable support services; and 3) data services. Expected outcomes include reduced recidivism, reduced taxpayer burden, and increased collaboration among community partners and service providers. High need individuals, who are often incarcerated due to serious mental illness, behavioral health (mental health and substance use disorders), and homelessness, are the intended beneficiaries of Project RIO.
