Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $20,000)

The purpose of the Simpson County Law Enforcement Training Academy Part-Time

Officer Training project is to mitigate costs to train and retrain new and previously trained law

enforcement officers. The project activities include training in local and state laws and ethics.

Additional training includes history and principles of law enforcement, criminal justice system,

police power, DUI, civil liability, juvenile law, constitutional law, proper use of taser, firearms,

courtroom procedures and rules of evidence, human behavior, weapon manipulations, domestic

violence, first aid, human trafficking, homeland security, ICS, use of force, field training, basic

shooting, active shooter training, and criminal investigations. Expected outcomes include

successful training completion for all participants with metered measurable skills gains at the

completion of each segment of training. The project will be conducted in central Mississippi

with accessibility for potential future part-time law enforcement officers from all areas of

Mississippi. Beneficiaries will include all Mississippi communities, municipalities, and its

citizens. Subrecipient local law enforcement communities will also have the ability to retrain

previously trained part-time officers during this project period.
