The City of Meadville seeks funding to support the expansion of crisis intervention services throughout the community through the creation of a dedicated Crisis Intervention Officer (CIO) that is trained to respond to crisis scenarios that involve individuals who are experiencing mental health disorders. The CIO will work in tandem with both the Meadville Police Department and the Meadville Fire Department to provide support across all police, fire and EMS calls. In this role, the CIO will provide advanced life support, basic life support, and first responder care under the medical direction of the Medical Command Director from the Meadville Fire Department. The Crisis Intervention Officer is also responsible for community outreach and public education activities that specifically address the needs of individuals in crisis while acting as a liaison between the community's first response agencies and various public health and human services organizations.
