Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $963,000)
The Maine State Police is requesting $963,000 to help local law enforcement agencies make critical upgrades to equipment, technology and training (at FLETC) to ensure the enduring efficacy of local law enforcement. Consistent with Byrne Justice Assistance Grants (JAG) and based on the public safety needs of each community, this CPF request initiative is aimed at preventing and reducing crime, improving the effectiveness of law enforcement, increasing officer safety, curbing the opioid crisis, and other strategic priorities.
The technology and equipment upgrades, including body, cruiser and surveillance cameras, interoperable communications technologies, modernized criminal record technology, forensic technology, and technology training will assist our local law enforcement agencies in working together and more effectively, enable them to respond more quickly, improve officer safety, increase transparency and enhance community relations.
This project is a good use of taxpayer funding because it will improve public safety, officer safety, and increase the transparency of law enforcement through technology improvements, and allows our local law enforcement agencies to work together across our vast rural district to reduce crime.
