State of Arizona Residential Substance Abuse Treatment Program

Project Goals: To break the cycle of substance abuse and anti-social behavior and prepare inmates for community re-entry by providing programs that will develop inmates’ cognitive, behavioral, social, and vocational skills.

Types of Programs to be Implemented: Residential, jail-based, aftercare, and post-release. Residential and jail-based projects will receive funding priority.

Program Strategies: The Arizona RSAT Program provides funding assistance to organizations that treat inmate substance abuse problems and anti-social behavior and prepare inmates for re-entry into the community.

Major Deliverables: By providing funding to prisons, jails and non-profit organizations that treat offender substance abuse, the program will prepare offenders for community reintegration, reduce offender recidivism rates, and enhance the capability of local government to provide residential substance abuse treatment.

Partnerships: Funded projects must demonstrate a strong collaborative effort in the areas of law enforcement, prosecution, service providers, community organizations, and other social service agencies. Current funded agencies maintaining these strong partnerships include Arizona Department of Corrections, Arizona Department of Juvenile Corrections, Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office, Pinal County Sheriff, Navajo County Sheriff, Valley Housing Partners, Graham County Substance Abuse Coalition, and Chicanos por la Causa.
