Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $68,464)
The goal of the Alabama John R. Justice Initiative is to help retain eligible full-time prosecutors and public defenders who are burdened with significant educational debt and have limited means to repay it. The Office of Prosecution Services has adopted a model in which applicants will apply directly to the designated state administering agency. This agency will make decisions based on the programmatic criteria outlined, the applicant's ability to pay, and any additional recommendations regarding which applicants should receive funding and in what amounts.
The Office of Prosecution Services plans to use a general application, created by the agency, for potential applicants of the John R. Justice Initiative in Alabama. The application will include information on basic eligibility requirements, disclosures, assurances of employment status, and qualifying loan details. The anticipated availability of applications for potential applicants is within 60 days of a formal award being made to our agency. These applications will be submitted to OPS within a specified timeframe and carefully reviewed to ensure all sections are complete and that all required attachments are included.
