Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $63,255)
The goal of the project is to alleviate some of the financial burden on prosecutors and public defenders in Idaho and encourage them to continue providing excellent service to their communities by awarding grant funds for student loan repayment through the John R. Justice Grant (JRJG) program.
The Regents of the University of Idaho (UI), as the state's administering agency, will manage the outreach program to inform all practicing attorneys about the John R. Justice Grant program. Through an application process, beneficiaries will be selected for loan repayment, with payments made directly to the institutions holding the qualifying loans. Selection will be based on several factors, including the timeliness of the application, academic achievement, meritorious service, the amount of qualifying loan debt, a salary cap of $85,000, geographic location of the worksite, and the applicant’s ability to repay the student loan.
