Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $350,000)
The Travis County District Attorney’s Office will utilize this funding to implement the Advancing Prosecutorial Accountability and Effectiveness through Data Analysis Project. The purpose is to enhance the effectiveness and equity of prosecutorial strategies within the Travis County District Attorney’s Office (TCDA) by establishing a robust data analysis infrastructure. The primary activities of the project include hiring a data analyst to conduct a comprehensive needs assessment. This assessment will identify gaps and limitations in TCDA’s current data collection systems and propose solutions to improve data accuracy and reliability. Subsequently, protocols and systems will be established for collecting, integrating, and analyzing data from multiple sources, ensuring consistency and reliability in prosecutorial data practices. Expected outcomes of the project include enhanced data collection and analysis capabilities within TCDA, enabling accurate tracking and evaluation of key prosecutorial metrics such as conviction rates, case dismissals, and recidivism rates. Additionally, data analysis will facilitate the identification of trends, disparities, and areas for improvement in TCDA’s approach to crime reduction and public safety. The project will provide TCDA with actionable insights to inform policy decisions, improve resource allocation, and enhance the overall effectiveness of prosecutorial strategies.
