Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $550,000)

Salt Lake County (SLCo) proposes to implement the Person-Centered Peer Support Pilot Project (PCPS). The goal is to improve outcomes for participants in Salt Lake City Justice Court Familiar Faces Court in Salt Lake County, Utah.

Project activities will support 117 individuals in Salt Lake City Justice Court Familiar Faces Court by establishing a detailed implementation plan during a 12-month Planning Phase with BJA Training and Technical Assistance, followed by a 24-month Implementation Phase. During the Implementation Phase, PCPS will embed three Certified Peer Support Specialists who leverage their lived experience to provide support services that address participants needs, connect the criminal justice system with the behavioral health system, and work to relieve barriers.

Project partners include SLCo as the lead agency and grant administrator, Salt Lake City Justice Court Familiar Faces Court as the criminal justice agency partner, and National Alliance on Mental Illness Utah as the behavioral health agency partner. There are no planned conference activities for the recommended award.
