Capacity Enhancement and Backlog Reduction for Ventura County

In this grant application the Forensic Services Bureau is requesting funds to continue funding one fixed term DNA position to help reduce the backlog. This individual will help screen evidence and conduct DNA analysis. The overall objective of this grant is to improve DNA analysis capacity and to reduce the number of backlogged DNA cases. The laboratory’s goal is to reduce the number of pending cases by 55 cases per year. This will result in an additional fifteen to twenty DNA profiles being entered into the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) each year with an anticipated result of seven to ten CODIS hits per year.
