Project Description: The purpose of this project is to address a critical gap in care for nonfatal shooting (NFS) victims by expanding the scope of resources available and develop a systematic collective of service providers across Indianapolis, Indiana. The primary activities include: 1) partnering with Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) and Hospital-Based Violence Intervention Programs (HVIPs); 2) Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) Victim Advocates and Detectives to attend trainings on trauma-informed care/cognitive behavioral theory (CBT); and 3) provide barrier buster, support services, and referrals to shooting victims. The primary outcomes of the program include: 1) improve health outcomes for victims; 2) reduce reinjury rate of victims; 3) improve NFS case clearance rates; and 4) decreased firearm violence in the community. The target population for this project is victims of nonfatal shootings in Indianapolis, Indiana, with priority consideration being given to high-risk individuals between the ages of 9 and 34.

The target population for this project is victims of nonfatal shootings in Indianapolis, Indiana, with priority consideration being given to high-risk individuals between the ages of 9 and 34. High-risk is defined as Black/African American males who have been involved in the criminal justice system 4 or more times or have a connection to a gang/group/crew. Subrecipients for this project are Boot Camp Connect, Inner Beauty Program, Purpose 4 My Pain, VOICES Inc. Eskenazi Health, and Indiana University Health.
