Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $900,000)

The Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes are federally recognized tribes located in Canadian County, Oklahoma. Their tribal lands span nine counties in western Oklahoma which include Dewey, Custer, Washita, Roger Mills, Blaine, Canadian, Kingfisher, Beckham, and Ellis. Each tribe has its own distinct culture and language. With this funding, the tribes aim to reduce barriers that often lead to reoffending and recidivism.
Recently, the enrollment in the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes has increased due to a lowering of the blood quantum to 1/8th. This change has allowed more members to join, resulting in an increase in services and court proceedings. The Criminal Court of the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes has seen a 20% rise in clients every month, with an increase in probation services. With this funding the Cheyenne and Arapaho Probation Services will respond to and reduce criminal recidivism while ensuring that probationers follow the court's and bond's orders. They will provide supervision and guidance to the probationers to ensure they successfully complete their terms while promoting public safety.
