Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $139,458)

The Cahuilla Band of Indians is a federally recognized tribe located in Riverside County, California. With this funding, the Cahuilla Band of Indians will develop a comprehensive justice system wide strategic plan that will address court model implementation, community policing strategies, and assist in restoring justice-involved individuals and victims to an understanding with the tribe. This effort builds on the 2018 Bureau of Indian Affairs funded Tribal Court Assessment. The assessment outlined the importance of code development and identified key judicial needs of the tribe.
