The Organized Village of Kake is a federally recognized tribe located in the rural and remote Southeast Alaska village of Kake. The tribe will renovate a portion of a tribally owned building to create a permanent Tribal Court space. The current temporary court space is a shared multiuse space that does not ensure appropriate confidentiality or security. Additionally, the current temporary court space does not have a judge’s chamber or staff office space, nor does it have any kind of waiting room or reception area. The approximately 5,000 square feet renovated space will include: a court room that will also be used for Circle Peacemaking and meetings, judge’s chambers, court administrator and clerk office, lobby/waiting area, storage room, and restroom.
