Chickaloon Native Village is a federally recognized tribe located in southcentral Alaska. The Chickaloon Tribal Police Department is proposing to hire, and train qualified Tribal Police Officers. This is in response to documented community threats of assaults and sexual assaults, domestic violence, child and elder abuse and other disturbance calls; controlled substance misuses, opioid and other illicit substances production, distribution and use; burglaries, thefts and trespasses; and Missing and Murdered Indigenous People (MMIP), human trafficking, and sextortion. Chickaloon Tribal Police Department was awarded the VAWA 2022 Alaska Pilot Program and has several Inter-Governmental Agreements and memorandums of understanding with tribal villages and the Alaska Department of Public Safety.
Chickaloon Tribal Police Officers will provide community policing needs, provide a proactive crime prevention presence, and enhance community collaborations with tribal, local, state, and federal agencies to create safer communities within Chickaloon, Chitina, Eklutna, Dot Lake and Knikâs 2020 Census Alaska Native Village Statistical Areas.
