Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $900,000)

Healy Lake Village is a federally recognized tribe located in Healy Lake, Alaska. With this funding, Healy Lake Village Council will develop a prevention program for at-risk tribal members, enhance the tribal court through the expansion of tribal codes and involvement in the Dena Nena Henash Intertribal Court, and expand search and rescue capabilities. The prevention program will serve Healy Lake tribal members. It will be two pronged, focusing on both meeting the immediate needs of at-risk tribal members, and helping tribal members regain lost traditional knowledge and skills and helping to reconnect vital community ties. Tribal code development will focus on a public safety code and appellate code to ensure the safety and fair treatment of the tribal members. Search and rescue efforts will be improved through the purchase of important gear, as well as providing stipends for volunteer search and rescue team. All aspects of the proposed project directly benefit the residents of Healy Lake Village and all Healy Lake tribal members.
