Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $247,644)

The Police Departments of Frederick, Firestone, Dacono, and Mead in Colorado propose to continue to implement a multi-jurisdictional Victim Services Unit, the Carbon Valley & Mead Victim Services Program, to provide victim-centered, trauma-informed services to victims of crime and unexpected tragedy. This program will be the sole provider of in-person victim services within the four jurisdictions.  Services include providing on-scene crisis intervention, safety planning, resource identification and referral, victim rights information, case updates, assistance with applying for Crime Victim Compensation, and accompaniment to emergency medical care and/or medical forensic exams. Expected outcomes include maintaining an Outreach Victim Advocate position to serve the four jurisdictions; the availability of 24/7 on-call victim services; fostering community partnerships; increasing community awareness; and a decreased rate of revictimization, especially among victims of domestic violence.
