The Seminole Nation of Oklahoma, hereinafter SNO or Nation, is located in a remote rural, tribal jurisdictional area in south central Oklahoma in Seminole County. SNO is the largest of the three (politically unrelated) federally recognized Seminole governments, including the Seminole Tribe of Florida and the Miccosukee Tribe of Indians of Florida. To address the issues of drug and alcohol related criminal activity in this tribal, rural community, the Nation is seeking a Bureau of Justice Assistance FY24 Tribal Healing to Wellness enhancement grant. The proposal aims to treat will be up to 48 defendants over the grant period, making a total of 70 maximum. SNO will align the Healing to Wellness Court Tribal Healing to Wellness 10 Key Components with individual case management plans, providing effective and promising evidenced-based treatment, mentorship, cultural connectivity, and community engagement to support sobriety, wellness and healing while also providing for judicial accountability. The program will utilize evidenced based programs from Bureau of Justice Assistance, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, and/or Office of Justice Programs. SNO Court is on a mission to reduce current recidivism rates among its 24 current participants and 48 future participants.
