Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $808,667)
The Lorain County Recovery Court (LCRC) is a specialty docket for felony cases that focuses on opioid abuse reduction, while using a treatment team to coordinate multiple complex systems. The mission is to provide participants positive diversion from ongoing addiction and incarceration through treatment, supervision, and accountability with the goal of providing participants with the tools to live sober and crime free lives. If approved, this Category 2 Enhancement grant would expand and enhance services by allowing LCRC to implement data received through the Racial and Ethnic Disparities Program Assessment Tool to help alleviate racial disparities within the court making more services available and appealing to underserved populations. This funding would allow LCRC to reduce risk and decrease recidivism among participants by separating them by risk level. Additionally, it would add overdose prevention training and toolkits for all participants and staff while supporting harm reduction. Upon completion of the project, participants will show evidence of increased recovery capital by living a healthy, drug free and crime free lifestyle. The target population is high-risk/high-need.
