Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $763,185)

The Genesee County Sobriety Court (GCSC), located in Genesee County, Michigan is a hybrid driving while intoxicated court that is a pre- and post-plea program. The GCSC proposes to implement a program enhancement and expansion to include two dedicated therapists and one female recovery coach. The goal of adding two dedicated clinicians to the program would be to promote a consistent and collaborative rapport between the GCSC staff and Flint Odessey House staff, thereby improving the outcomes for the participants in the program. The goal of adding a female recovery coach to the program would be to promote gender-specific supports that female program participants will be benefit from and be able to focus on their counseling and treatment, while not having to worry of the stigma of addiction. The program’s expected outcomes include: a decrease in female program terminations; an increase in females wanting to enter the program; and improved communication between the GCSC and Flint Odessey House, where all program participants will benefit. Use of any form of U.S Food and Drug Administration approved medication-assisted treatment is available to any program participant and the program does not deny access to participation to participants seeking medication-assisted treatment.
