Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $645,937)

The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Courts are applying for enhancement for its Tribal Healing to Wellness Court (HWC). The target population, tribal members and members of federally recognized tribes, have access to all types of medication-assisted treatment. The funding will address target population, by increasing access to the HWC. The funding will also be used to provide more recovery support. The goals for this project are to increase the number of participants and increase graduation rates. Second, the HWC will screen more individuals at arraignment. Currently the HWC Coordinator attends Bombay Court, which makes referrals to HWC. To increase participation rates, the HWC will work with the Bombay Town Court judges to screen all individuals with a drug/alcohol related charge using UNCOPE, a brief six question evidence-based screening tool. Third, the HWC will create a separate docket for medium risk/need. Currently, these participants are separated by including them in a different docket. To increase recovery support, the HWC will use the Recovery Capital Index, an evidence-based tool. To address the goal of increasing our graduation rates, the HWC will continue its cultural workshop.
