The Center for the Missing will implement the Reducing Injury and Death of Missing Individuals with Dementia and Developmental Disabilities Program. The 2-year program will create a comprehensive set of multi-disciplinary, trauma-informed, and best practice services to prevent and reduce the injury or death of missing persons with dementia and developmental disabilities in the 14-county Houston-Galveston Region of Southeast Texas. An Emergency Alert Specialist will provide Emergency Alert Activation Training, including detailed instruction in how to implement the Endangered Missing Person Alert and Silver Alert notification systems, as well as response protocols for officers engaging with persons believed to have dementia or a development disability; and the Bilingual Case Manager will be available on-demand to provide support and case management services for affected family members. Project activities include: 1) providing GPS tracking devices, door/window alarms and identification tags/bracelets to families and caregivers, and ensuring they are trained on their use; 2) providing victim services and case management; 3) providing training to 200 officers and providing emergency alert activations and support to all law enforcement agencies in the region; and facilitating search and rescue services to recover endangered missing persons quickly.
