Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $180,800)
The United States Attorney's Office (USAO) in collaboration with federal, state, and local law enforcement, community partners, and other partners is collectively working to reduce gun and violent crime in the Western District of North Carolina (WDNC). The focus areas continue to be Charlotte, Asheville, and Statesville.
The enforcement strategy utilizes monthly case screenings between federal and local prosecutors, and criminal incident reviews with local law enforcement agencies. The goal continues to be to identify cases in which federal prosecution is most appropriate and would maximize the positive impact within the local community. The PSN initiative will utilize data-driven decision-making to focus enforcement efforts, modify approaches, and measure progress.
In collaboration with other Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) partners, including local prosecutors, federal and local probation and parole agencies, community groups, faith-based organizations, and local schools, the WDNC has developed a comprehensive enforcement and prevention strategy. The District will collaborate with Beasley Media, Adams Outdoor advertising, and others to implement an effective PSN media campaign using approved media instruments to drive messaging.
