Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $134,079)
The Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) strategy for the District of Wyoming is statewide. Wyoming experiences rates of violent crime below national averages and has relatively little criminal gang activity. However, crime statistics indicate increases in some categories of violent crime that are a cause for concern. Wyoming will use regularly updated crime data from state and local agencies to focus efforts on areas where violent crimes are most prevalent. Laramie County will be the recipient of PSN funds. Laramie county law enforcement include the Laramie County Sheriff's Office and the Cheyenne Police Department.
The United States Attorney, with assistance of the PSN coordinator and in conjunction with federal law enforcement agencies, will initiate and/or enhance existing partnerships with state, local, and tribal law enforcement along with county and district attorneys throughout the district. The PSN strategy will utilize various policing and enforcement methods to direct law enforcement activities on specific issues or groups that have been identified as driving factors of violent crime. The success of this PSN strategy will depend on generating effective partnerships with state, local, and tribal law enforcement along with prosecutors, particularly in the areas where violent crime is most prevalent.
