Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $100,603)

The United States Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Oklahoma (NDOK) Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) initiative will address violent crime in metropolitan areas, particularly the Tulsa region. This project aims to prevent, intervene, and reduce violent crime through the creation or expansion of a multijurisdictional violent crime task force or metropolitan law enforcement agency. The primary focus will be on implementing hot-spot policing strategies in communities with populations over 50,000. The project will support targeted enforcement for gang-affiliated individuals and areas known to harbor violent crime, with at least 30% of funds dedicated to supporting gang task forces.

Key activities will include overtime funding for investigators working in high-crime areas, enhanced collaboration between law enforcement agencies and community partners, and improved data collection and analysis for violent crime reduction efforts. The task force will regularly communicate with local law enforcement agencies and other NDOK PSN partners to foster a comprehensive approach to crime reduction. The project will also emphasize community engagement, potentially including referrals to reentry programs and community-based training.

Expected outcomes include a reduction in violent crimes such as homicides, aggravated assaults, and gang-related activities. The project will track various metrics, including the number and types of cases worked, collaboration efforts with partner agencies, evidence seized, and offender information. The service area encompasses the Northern District of Oklahoma, with a focus on the Tulsa metropolitan area and surrounding communities with populations over 50,000.

The Oklahoma District Attorneys Council will serve as the fiscal agent, managing subgrant processes and ensuring compliance with federal requirements. This comprehensive approach aims to significantly impact violent crime rates in the Northern District of Oklahoma through targeted, data-driven strategies and enhanced interagency cooperation.
