Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $3,197,184)

The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program promotes working partnerships between federal, state, and local governments to support various activities to prevent and control crime and improve the criminal justice system. The State of Colorado distributes the JAG funds through a competitive grant process. Applications are accepted in all of the JAG Purpose Areas with priority given to those applications which support the Colorado JAG program goal: To support the implementation of programs or provide resources that prevent, reduce, or address crime, delinquency, recidivism, or improve outcomes for those affected by crime using innovative, multidisciplinary, evidence-based, or promising or best practices.

Based on applications received and recommended for 2024 JAG funding, the top project identifiers for JAG funding include Law Enforcement, Prosecution, Court, and Indigent Defense, Prevention and Education, Corrections and Community Corrections, Drug Treatment and Enforcement, Planning, Evaluation, Technology Improvement, and Crime Victim and Witness Programs. These approved subgrants are representative of all areas across the State of Colorado.
The Colorado Department of Public Safety, Office of Research and Statistics will assist the Colorado JAG Advisory Board in their strategic planning efforts to develop the next five-year plan. The Strategic Plan created during this process will contribute to an overarching state Public Safety Plan to be created in FY25. This state plan will help the JAG Advisory Board to focus efforts to drive measurable outcomes in the future.
