Beaufort County School District in South Carolina Lowcountry requests funding from the Bureau of Justice Assistance FY24 STOP School Violence Program Competitive Solicitation, , Category 2, to implement and evaluate a comprehensive plan between behavioral health providers, community partners, and university scientists to prevent violence, improve safety, and promote a positive school climate. Through the Promising Students Program, Beaufort County School District will establish a therapeutic day program for kindergarten through grade two students to support their individualized social, emotional, behavioral, and academic needs; expand access to clinical services for otherwise underserved elementary students in crisis; implement a social-emotional learning curriculum to improve school climate and safety; provide family support services to parents in need; and conduct a rigorous scientific mixed-methods program evaluation. Promising Students Program aims to prevent school violence and improve student safety by providing individualized and targeted support for high-need elementary students and enhancing their access to onsite mental health and behavioral support services.
