Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $2,043,556)

The Department of Public Safety (DPS), Office of Criminal Justice Assistance (OCJA) serves as the State Administrative Agency (SAA) for Nevada’s Edward Byrne Memorial Justice of Assistance Grant (JAG) funding from the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs.

With the FY24 JAG funding OCJA will select JAG projects to improve the performance of the criminal justice system and strengthen public safety. Those improvements will increase Nevada’s capacity to prevent and reduce violent crime, recidivism, human trafficking, illegal drug sales and distribution, gang-related activity in urban as well as under served rural communities. Projects funded with the JAG grant will also enhance the rule of law by strengthening law enforcement, court programs, prosecution, defense, reentry programs, crisis intervention, and system improvements with technology for the criminal justice field across the state. Nevada’s JAG grant supports a wide variety of programs for state and local governments, as well as non-profits. OCJA utilizes JAG grant funds for projects that address issues most critical to Nevada.

The JAG grant provides criminal justice organizations with additional personnel, equipment, supplies, contractual support, training, technical assistance, information systems, and criminal justice solutions. Projects selected for JAG grant funding will have a high probability of improving the performance of the criminal justice system.
