Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $3,448,357)

The overall goal of the JAG Program in South Carolina is to promote safe communities across the state through the reduction of crime; with a special focus on drugs, violent crime, mental health and the increased focus on officer retention and recruitment. Toward that goal, the program seeks to fund projects that will enhance progress toward the following priorities: Law Enforcement Programs, Prosecution and Court Programs, Prevention and Education Programs, and Mental Health Programs and related Law Enforcement/Corrections Programs.

Continuation projects that have demonstrated success in prior years in accordance with predetermined project evaluation measures will receive priority. Otherwise, new and continuation projects will compete equally each year. In such a competitive environment, “need” and the use of effective data-driven strategies will be key factors for funding selections, in addition to evaluating performance results.
