Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $1,000,000)

Smoky Hill Education Service Center proposes to deliver expanded trauma-informed services to 33,735 students while rolling out its proven safety and wellness model to an additional 11,516 students from three new partner school districts. This solution will feature a trauma-informed version of Kansas' previously available anonymous reporting system (ARS), with 24/7 emergency monitoring and crisis counselor support. This enhanced solution will also feature an artificial intelligence driven navigator to provide students with immediate access to local school/community resources. Because Kansas' counselor to student ratio remains lower than national recommendations, virtual counseling will also be a cornerstone mental wellness solution available to districts. The expanded services will feature school climate and culture programming delivered through Rachel's Challenge, and staff mental wellness training and curriculum delivered by Heartfelt Educators. This grant will allow a total of 45,251 students from new and current partner districts to select service packages based on their unique safety and security needs and gaps.
