The Mattie Rhodes Memorial Society will implement the multi-tiered system of support best practice model to prevent and intervene in multiple types of school-based violence. The primary activities include hiring school support personnel; implementing a multi-disciplinary intervention team; training school personnel and students on preventing school violence, developing, and operating technology solutions; and supporting ongoing community engagement between project partners. The expected outcome is increased school safety. The project will be implemented in Northeast Middle School and Northeast High School within Kansas City Public Schools. The beneficiaries of this project are the residents of the historic northeast and westside neighborhoods in Kansas City, Missouri who currently rely on community development programs and services offered by the applicant. The project partners include Kansas City Public Schools (intended subrecipient), Kansas City Police Department, the City of Kansas City Missouri Mayor's office, Jackson County Missouri Community-Backed Anti-crime Public Safety Tax (COMBAT), and Jackson County Missouri Family Court.
