Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $999,849)

To address the leading root causes for violence in the smallest schools in our county, Clyde-Savannah CSD together with Red Creek CSD and Marion CSD propose the Regulation Skills and Relationships (RSR) collaborative project.  This project is supported by the Wayne County Community Schools Coalition, a collaborative of more than forty partners.  RSR is a three-year initiative designed to leave behind a sustainable shared menu of evidence-based programs and practices installed with the support of the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, Wayne County Department of Mental Health and partners from the Coalition of Community Schools and Wayne Partnership. The implementation of integrated supports such as enhanced mental health services, violence prevention programs, and professional development for staff in positive behavioral interventions and culturally responsive practices is essential to reduce absenteeism, suspensions, and behavioral issues and to enhance overall student well-being and academic success, fostering a safer, more inclusive, and supportive learning environment for all students.  We will train together to support our population of youth in rural poverty (Priority 1A), especially our LGBTQIA+ youth who express feelings of isolation locally, and nationally are identified as a vulnerable population.  Absence of equity is absence of safety, and our effort supports all students.  Our shared goals including training adults to use evidence based program and pracitces, and ensuring that all students experience support from our project at the level they need to feel safe and to be successful.
