The proposed project, Comprehensive Safety and Violence Prevention in Diverse Middle Schools, addresses school safety and preparedness through assessment of Prince William County Public Schools (PWCS) comprehensive safety and preventative violence systems at the district level and middle school-level (N=17). Project activities encompass four categories: comprehensive needs assessment; multidisciplinary teaming and curriculum development; training/implementation exercises; and capacity-building for sustainability to ensure overall school safety and violence prevention for PWCS middle schools. Collaboration with George Mason University faculty, PWCS leadership, middle school staff, law enforcement, students, and national and community partners across all activities ensures the expected potential for efficiency and effectiveness of PWCS internal and external elements of comprehensive school safety and violence prevention planning and implementation.
This project will improve school violence and climate in PWCS, aligning with the Bureau of Justice Assistance intent to address specific local needs and create sustainable and scalable models for violence prevention.
