Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $42,780)

The State of Hawaii, Department of the Attorney General will pass through FY 2024 Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA) funds to the Hawaii Criminal Justice Data Center (HCJDC); the entity responsible for maintaining the state’s central registry of sex offenders and other covered offenders.  The HCJDC works in collaboration with the Criminal Justice (CJD) and Investigations Divisions of the Department of the Attorney General (AG), local law enforcement, and the US Marshal Service to comply with the SORNA requirements.

This project aims to maintain compliance with SORNA’s verification requirement by allocating resources for interisland travel, allowing investigators to perform in-person verification checks across the state. These checks target offenders who fail to comply with the State’s verification process.  Additionally, funding will support training for two staff members in areas such as supervision of sex offenders, registration, investigation, and/or apprehension techniques.
