Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $30,548)
The New Hampshire Sununu Youth Services Center (SYSC), under the management of the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), was issued a Corrective Action Plan (CAP) as the result of the 2024 Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) Interim Audit. The CAP highlighted the need for DHHS to better track areas for compliance regarding retaliation monitoring, safety planning, training of staff, contractors, and volunteers, and referral and follow-up for required services to those who may have been sexually victimized as defined by the PREA standards. Of the 43 federal PREA standards reviewed, 38 areas concluded to be of standard or above, however, five areas had failed to meet standard.
The New Hampshire Department of Justice (NHDOJ), the primary recipient and the designated State Administrating Agency (SAA) of this funding, will partner with DHHS to assist with meeting PREA compliance standards in relation to the Sununu Youth Services Center (SYSC) by using PREA Reallocation funding to obtain and maintain a new PREA case management system “PREATrac” for the next two years and by assisting with employee overtime costs associated with training DHHS staff on new PREA policies and procedures and the new PREAtrac system.
