Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $765,628)

The Jefferson County Health Department seeks to collaborate with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and Chestnut Health Systems on the Jefferson County Substance Use Response Coordination and Transportation Access Project. This initiative aims to enhance drug take-back programs in the county, increasing the capacity for receiving and safely disposing of prescription drugs and illicit substances. Additionally, the project will establish an Overdose Fatality Review (OFR) Board and expand transportation options for participants in the county's three treatment court programs, facilitating their completion of treatment court requirements.

The anticipated outcomes of this project include a more efficient and widely used drug disposal program, the successful establishment of an OFR Board, and an increase in the number of treatment court participants who complete the program, with a reduction in the time required for completion. Subrecipient activities will encompass the purchase of an incinerator, the development of the OFR Board, and the provision of transportation services through the Chestnut Peers program.
