The Idaho Department of Correction (IDOC) proposes to implement a bodyworn camera pilot program. The purpose of this project is to develop a comprehensive body-worn camera policy and to pilot body camera technology in three units of IDOC: Probation & Parole District 3, Idaho Maximum Security Institution, and IDOC’s Special Investigations Unit. Project activities include development of a body-worn camera policy in partnership with community and law-enforcement stakeholders, staff training, procurement and implementation of 512 body-worn cameras at IDOC, and data collection and assessment of the project’s overall impact. Expected outcomes include increased safety for IDOC’s staff and residents, enhanced transparency and public trust, improved training and safety procedures, and data showing the potential impact of an agency-wide bodyworn camera program at IDOC.
