Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $460,000)

The Arlington County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO), with 240 sworn deputies, proposes to acquire Body Worn Cameras (BWCs) for 32 field (warrants and transportation) deputies, 19 supervisors, and 59 jail deputies (110 BWCs) to establish a comprehensive BWC program in year 1. ACSO proposes 60 additional cameras for years 2 and 3; totaling 230 BWCs. Under the $2000 per BWC funding cap, ACSO may apply for no more than $460,000 in BWCPIP federal funding (230 BWCs * $2000). The ACSO may choose not to request the maximum amount based on the program’s scope or cost efficiencies.

The ACSO BWC program aims to enhance digital evidence management, improve deputy training, and protect staff and inmates while building community trust. Expected outcomes include reduced investigation times, fewer PREA claims and assaults, and improved safety, efficiency, and transparency. Integrating BWC evidence will strengthen ACSO’s response to threats and foster greater community trust.
