Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $18,167)

The City of Douglasville would like to use the 2024 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant funds to purchase (1) Harley-Davidson motorcycle to be operated by members of the Traffic Division.

As part of the Douglasville Police Department’s initiative to provide safe roadways to the motoring public, maintaining a versatile fleet of vehicles is crucial.  Motorcycles provide mobility and quick response to critical emergency situations.  The Douglasville Police Department currently utilizes Harley Davidson Motorcycles, of which one has reached its service limitations and warranty period and must be replaced for the safety of the motor officer.

The City of Douglasville heavily relies on the specialized officers within the Traffic/Motor Unit to provide safe roadways for the motoring public and respond to vehicle crashes in a city with a rapidly growing population.  The use of motorcycles allows officers the ability to rapidly respond to critical incidents on the roadways, as well as coordinate safety efforts and enforcement with other divisions within the department, including the Community Outreach Division.  The use of this Harley Davidson Motorcycle will help to continue the enforcement of traffic laws while ensuring safety and preservation of life on the roadways within the City of Douglasville.
