Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $19,323)

The intent of the Grand Forks Police Department (GFPD), and the Grand Forks County Sheriff’s Office (GFSO), in relationship to the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program FY 2024 Local Solicitation, is to enhance individual organization equipment used for addressing violent crime and promoting trust within the community. To accomplish that goal, the GFPD will fund one distinct project, and the GFSO will partially fund one project, and both organizations are committed to utilizing local funding sources to cover costs that exceed allocated JAG funds. The Grand Forks Police Department (GFPD) proposes to utilize JAG funding to augment community security and safety through the addition of less lethal force option resources, to allow for enhanced accessibility and more rapid field deployment. The grantee intends to procure additional protective level 3/4 ballistic armor shields to be used for protections against small arms during tactical situations. With acts of violence on the rise, enhancing our ability to intervene is increasingly important. These devices should enhance our existing infrastructure and ability to thoroughly protect the community. The Grand Forks County Sheriff’s Office (GFSO) proposes to allocate its portion of JAG funding towards the purchase of personal protective equipment in the form of level 3/4 ballistic protective equipment that will assist in officer safety in all environments, to include ballistic armor shields and ballistic helmets.
