Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $20,743)
Through this grant, the Apopka Police Department will be making enhancements to the Administrative and Support Services Divisions. This will be done through an equipment purchase to enhance our criminal intelligence gathering capabilities as well as our operational capabilities when deploying to critical incidents.
First, the department would like to purchase two (2) high-performance desktop computers and monitors for our crime analyst. These computers will replace the current system which is not capable of running the robust surveillance video and intelligence gathering programs that our crime analyst utilizes. This will increase productivity and efficiency for real-time crime analysis when we need it.
Second, the department would like to purchase our Criminal Investigations Division several upgraded GPS tracking devices designed for covert surveillance operations. These devices are designed to be easier installed, have a long charge cycle, and are more durable than previous generations. These will replace the department’s current GPS devices which are obsolete and no longer operational.
Third, grant funds will be used to purchase several dynamic entry kits to have at readily available at every city-wide public school should immediate entry is needed to a room or building during critical incidents; such as active shooter events. These kits will include various breaching tools necessary to help successfully breach locked or barricaded doors and windows.
The City of Apopka does not have sufficient funds budgeted to purchase this equipment and needs grant funds for assistance.
