Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $23,533)

The Town of Gilbert Police Department will utilize the 2024 JAG Grant award to expand its less-lethal weapons and tactics program through the purchase of ten Penn Arms 40mm Less-Lethal munitions system.  The Penn Arms system utilizes a safer and more accurate foam round compared to the more traditionally used bean bag.  The less-lethal munitions (LLM) program is centered around minimizing damage and injury and preserving human life. LLMs are designed for use in appropriate "use of force" situations to incapacitate and safely de-escalate volatile situations.

In FY24, the Department began replacing its outdated Remington 870 LLM program with the Penn Arms LLM 40mm launcher system.  If approved, this purchase would increase our less lethal munitions program inventory allowing for more training using less-lethal tools, an ability to outfit additional Patrol personnel, and to maintain a dedicated inventory at the Public Safety Training Facility.
