Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2024, $14,994)
The City of Americus will us the JAG funds to purchase a Thermo Scientific TruNarc Analyzer for the purpose combating the compounding problems for law enforcement, almost any type of illegal drugs may contain deadly levels of fentanyl, and an officer attempting to collect these substances wouldn’t be able to see it, taste it, or smell it. It is nearly impossible to tell if drugs have been laced with fentanyl unless the drugs are tested.
The City of Americus will use funds to purchase a Thermo Scientific TruNarc Analyzer which uses laser technology to scan suspected narcotics through the packaging without having to unseal or disturb the potentially deadly substance. Thermo Scientific TruNarc Analyzer is capable to identifying almost 500 substances, including narcotics, stimulants, depressants, hallucinogens and analgesics. The purpose of this project is to purchase one TruNarc Analyzer through a combination of Byrne JAG Funds and funding from a local foundation.
