Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) will use JAG funds to purchase six BolaWrap tools and belt holsters to protect officers and individuals during potentially dangerous situations. Primary activities include training officers to use the equipment, equipping officers with the BolaWrap tool, and utilizing the BolaWrap tool in various situations where the individual being pursued is potentially a danger to themselves or others.
Expected outcomes include minimized injury risk to both officers and engaged individuals. The project will improve relationships between officers and the Forsyth County community, reduce litigation, and result in a safer, more humane, and community-oriented approach to policing.
The service area for use of the JAG funds is Forsyth County, Georgia. Intended beneficiaries include officers of FCSO, its citizens, and those engaged in high-risk situations with law enforcement, including, but not limited to those who are emotionally disturbed (EDP), passively resistant and non-compliant, mildly aggressive and non-compliant, in mental health crisis, suicidal, under the influence of alcohol and drugs, armed (not with a firearm), non-assaultive, non-compliant, and non-mobile.
