Title of Project: Jones County Sheriff’s Department 2024 USDOJ JAG Program Project
Goals of Project: To provide two (2) P25 compliant portable digital radios operating on the State of Mississippi MSWIN System for Patrol Division deputies, corrections officers, investigators, and narcotics agents assigned to the Jones County Sheriff’s Department SWAT Team to utilize in high risk situations where the incident is rapidly escalating and evolving and in daily law enforcement and corrections operations. Deputies desperately the requested equipment available to them to provide critical communication during barricaded suspects, hostage situations, high risk warrant service operations, active shooter events, and daily operations.
Description of Strategies: The Jones County Sheriff’s Department will utilize Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 Local Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program funding in the amount of $10,647.00 to purchase two (2) portable digital P25 compliant radios which will be issued to deputies in the Patrol Division and corrections officers in the Corrections Divison. The Jones County Sheriff’s Department will conduct training for the entire department with regard to crisis intervention, de-escalation techniques along with cultural, ethnic, religious and lifestyle sensitivity training. Training will also include certification in use of the requested communication equipment in high risk, escalating and evolving situations so that deputies may confidently and safely respond to these situations. These communication equipment devices have the great potential to save the lives of officers and residents of our Areas Covered.
